The Faculty of Electrical Engineering trains engineers for the following domains:
- General Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Drives and Robots
- Metrology and Virtual Tooling/Systems of measurement
- Electrical Machines and Management
- Industrial Power Systems
Within the structure of the Educational Programmes ensuring the teaching process, an important stress is also laid on a multipurpose basics training that provides advanced knowledge of Electronics, Automation, Informatics, Informatics and Computer Science without which the Electrotechnical education cannot be imagined.
The flexibility of the Electrotechnical education allows professional orientation towards other technical domains.
As market-based society is self-defining, information becomes consumer good without which life is impossible. In such a world, communication mass means tend to replace the freedom of dialogue with the authority of monologue. Because of this, remembrances - as the present one - maintain the reality image under the explanatory power of word. Man's autonomy towards nature or personality towards society starts with the word that accumulates knowledge and information in a wandering world unable to experience closed spaces. This is what we try to offer, and what follows are the landmarks of certain strategies.
It is a well-known fact that the individuality of a university is given by the contents it conveys and reproduces, it researches and applies and the faculty is clearly identified by a knowledge-associated finality, by specific research and applications fields.
The Educational Programmes have been and will be modified due to a need of change, and the consequences can be seen especially at this level. We refer to the modernization of study models, to the contents of analitycal programmes and, last but not least, to the teaching strategy. The Educational Programmes represent the interface of teaching staff's different concernss. Consequently, each responsible teacher should have something to say about the structure of the educational programme.
A principle of subject activity and one of institutional specialization were applied in order to avoid the diversity of personal interests. Thus, a common group of general subjects resulted, but the directions and specialization options were not multiplied. A series of postgraduate studies were introduced in order to avoid a flattened university training hierarchy, studies that function within distinctive domains of specialization.
The long-term college studies are concluded with a degree examination, made up of Diploma Paper and exams of specialties. The competent Ministry establishes the general criteria of organizing the degree examination and the Senate of Technical University establishes the methodology. The diplomas issued by the University until 1993 are equivalent with the degree diplomas and the graduates who failed their degree exams receive a study certificate and a transcript of recorsd at request. They can have this exam twice during the next 5 years after their graduation.
The subjects fundamental for the specialized engineer training are studie during the first two years (Mathematics, Physics, Informatics) without neglecting students' interest for general knowledge (History of Science and Logics). The study of subjects, characteristic for the electrical specialization starts now: Basics of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, and Measurement Techniques. During the IIIrd, IVth and Vth years, the specialized subjects are differenciated to a certain extend according to the faculty the student is registered at, the following synthesis being conclusive:
- Department of Electrical Engineering - Theory of Systems and Automatic Adjustment, Electrical engineering, Micro-programmed Systems, Industrial Design, Design Engineering with Numeric Computers, Sensors and Data Aquisitions, Electrical Thrust, Tele-measurements etc.
- Department of Electrical Actuating and Robots - Electrical Devices, Electrical Machines, Electronics of Power, Identification and Adaptive Control, Signal Processing, Basics of Actuating, Control Systems of Robots, Robots Programing
- Department of Metrology and Measurement Techniques - Measurement Techniques, Processing of Measurement Signals, Micro-programmed Systems, Sensors and Transducers, Design Engineering with Numeric Computers, Numerical Measures, Inteligent Measurement Systems, Legal Metrology, Measurement of Biomedical Values etc.
- Department of Electrical Machines and Marketing - Electromechanical Materials, Electrohydropneumatical Systems, Computing Systems with Microprocessor, Electrical Household Devices, Computer Controlling of Tool-Machines, Designing of Consumer Goods etc.
- Department of Energetics - Electroenergetic Equipments, Computer Usage in Energetics, Production of Electrical and Thermic Energy, Relay Projections, Transforming Stations , Logical Circuits etc.
The professional training of the students of The Faculty of Electrical Engineering does not neglect an important aspect of post-graduation activity, i.e. management. Those interested in a teaching carreer can study subjects as: Pedagogy, Methodology, Phsychology as part of the Course of Pedagogical Seminar.
The Educational Programmes are drawn up by the faculty, analysed within the Council, approved by the University Senate and the Ministry of National Education. Modification of educational programmes can be done only in the first year of study. The analytical programmes are drawn up by the head-teachers and approved by the department.
Post-graduation Studies with the following specializations are organized within the Faculty of Electrical engineering:
- CAD (Computer Aided Design in Electrical Engineering)
- CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing)
- Computer Controlled Electromechanical Systems, Measurements and Signal Processing
- Automation of Electrical Drives
- Industrial Power Systems
Nowadays, a certain validation of the study programmes by other worldwide well-known universities is insisted upon, validation that has to come to an end during the next period of time through a real engagement of the teaching staff in the innovation process of curriculum designing, applying and evaluation, referring to the educational plan, analytical programmes and textbooks.
Another component of the activity in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is represented by the research as a natural and formative preoccupation. Important results have been obtained in this domain, but the scientific research is affected now by the general crisis of the research system in Romania . In spite of this, the scientific research within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been developed according to Humboldt Model, which considers research an important part of the institution and any teacher should be involved in it. We took a distance from the Napoleon Model, which offered only training in this case.
The most important merit of the staff belonging to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering lies in the fact that, although it worked within the prior system the results of the fundamental scientific research were internationally recognized. Thus, 421 scientific works were published during 1992-1998 out of which 259 were published abroad (USA, Germany, UK, Japan, China, Australia, France, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands etc, in magazines or at many international conferences), emphasizing the research activity of the teaching staff. 196 contracts obtained through The Romanian Academy, The Ministry of Technology and Research or the Ministry of National Education were finished during the same period, together with ones having as partners companies in the country or abroad (USA, Belgium, France, Switzerland, UK etc)
The research was focused on the specificity of the research laboratories existent within every department and on the Ph.D. training domains. The Ph.D. programme represents a higher level form of combining teaching with research, available for long-term education graduates, with graduation diploma, being concluded with a publicly defended thesis and evaluated by a board of specialists. The title of Ph.D. is awarded by the Board of the University and confirmed by the National Office of Holders, Diplomas and Certificates Attestation within The Ministry of National Education and Ph.D. Diploma is issued based on the Minister's order.
Besides the Romanian students, a certain number of foreign people (from Germany , Greece , Hungary , Republic of Moldavia , Syria etc) are Ph.D. candidates within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The Ministry of National Education offers grants with the duration of 3-4 years to those interested in Ph.D. attending programmes. These can be obtained by entrance examination sustained at the University and the grantees have the rights and obligations of research assistants.
"Mirrors should reflect more before sending back the images," said Jean Cocteau in an indirect critique essay. If it were so, the history of our own persons would be spared of many disappointments...
As the general history evolves, we build our own identity, our own history. Within this context, man seems an animal capable of constructing and developing his own destiny starting with perspective projects. He makes his own history, which doesn't mean his plans succeed, but they initiate complex and antithetical processes whose results are always a modification of system in which he is involved.
