The Communications Department was founded in 1990, following the reorganisation of the Technical University of Cluj - Napoca. Since then, young academics interested in personal development and the progress of research and education have joined the experienced academic staff.
The courses delivered by the academic staff from the department are targeted to long – term education students (10 semesters), for the specializations Telecommunications and Electronics, to those enrolled in the Technical, Business and Administration College (6 semesters) for the specializations Communications and Postal Services as well as Electronics, and to the students enrolled in post graduate and Master of Sciences studies.
The domain covered by the Communications Department includes subjects such as Microprocessors Systems, Communications Techniques, Theory of Information Transmission, Cryptography, Multimedia Systems and Applications, Multimedia Databases, Multimedia Communications Networks, Satellite Communications, Information Recording Techniques, Switching Systems in Telecommunications, Broadband Integrated Techniques, Digital Networks in Telecommunications, Computer Networks, Microwaves, Radio – Communications, Antennas and Propagation, Cellular Radio – Communications, Computers Programming and Programming Languages, Software in Telecommunications, Software in Electronics, Telephony and Transmission Systems, Mobile communications Systems, Neural networks, Data Transmission, Advanced Techniques in Data Transmission, Digital Signal Processing, Speech Analysis and Synthesis etc.
Besides the teaching activity (activities with the students, writing of teaching materials –textbooks, handbooks, guide books) the academic staff has also been involved in national/international research and academic programmes.
