The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering was set up in 1990 as a result of the reorganization of the former Faculty of Mechanics. At that time, it was the first faculty with this profile in Romania and it gathered a group of academic staff with a high reputation in the field of advanced materials. Also, in the last years the Faculty has developed the necessary competences and facilities to deliver educational and research programs in the field of environmental engineering and protection in industry.

The mission of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering comprises the following valences: a) to assure a high professional training of students in accordance with the national and international standards concerning higher education; b) to contribute to the development of knowledge by performing advanced research and by dissemination of the results; c) to collaborate with the economic and social environment in order to correlate the educational and research programs with the real needs of the society. 

The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering provides educational programs at bachelor, master/advanced studies and doctoral level, in the following fields:

  • Materials Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering

The teaching and research activities are carried out in the five departments of the Faculty:

  • Department of Materials Science and Technology
  • Department of Materials Processing Engineering
  • Department of Environmental Engineering
  • Department of Physics
  • Department of Chemistry
